In Brief

  • Sir Rogan and Ned Isakoff the two standouts.
  • Sir Rogan a narrow favourite.
  • Could be a big afternoon for the Patrick Ryan kennel.

The clash between Sir Rogan and Ned Isakoff in race four in Devonport this afternoon is one of the main highlights on an interesting nine race card.

Sir Rogan, a younger half-brother to star bitches Peco Can and Hello Rhonda, takes his place in the top grade event from box four, following on from last week’s best of meeting 25.28 performance.

Scoring by a big margin, it was the son of Thirty Talks’ fifth Devonport victory from 10 outings, with the eye-catching effort enough to see bookies install the 36 kilo chaser a warm $1.80 favourite for today’s 452 metre assignment.

There to keep him honest today is the Patrick Ryan-trained Ned Isakoff, the son of Black Magic Opal eyeing a return to the winner’s list following three midfield finishes at Hobart and Launceston recently in higher grade.

Quoted $2.40 in markets for today’s race, Ned Isakoff boasts a sensational Devonport record, winning five of his seven starts at the track.

One of those unplaced finishes was in the final of the Group 3 Devonport Chase last December behind recently crowned Tassie greyhound of the year Stop Line.

If betting is any indication, Patrick Ryan looks set to play a strong hand today in Devonport.

The Dilston conditioner is represented by littermates Handsome Prince and Savage Victor in the opening two events, where they’ll start race favourites.

Handsome Prince exits box five in race one at the short quote of $1.55.

The son of Sh Avatar and See Blue’s Girl has won just one of his five career outings but is demonstrating that he’s a dog with plenty of upside, as indicated with his recent 26.29 Hobart 461 metre success.

In race two, Savage Victor will start tight in the market also, fresh off his blistering 19.46 Hobart success over the 340 metres last Thursday.

Drawn box six, Savage Victor is $2.00 with bookies, just ahead of Dolly’s Dream for trainer Chris Hepburn.

The daughter of Cosmic Chief has finished runner-up at her two most recent Devonport appearances and looks ideally drawn today in box two.
