FORMER star juvenile pacer Cloudy Delight notched her first win over a year when she led all the way to take out a Granny Smith Stakes prelude at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston on Sunday night.
The four-year-old mare began brilliantly and once in front had no trouble fending off the opposition over the final 400 metres and went on to score by two metres from the highly rated Calamity Katie with Arts Bliss almost seven metres astern.
Cloudy Delight is trained by Christian Salter who also guided the mare to victory.
“It was only a moderate performance tonight but she returned with a trial and has needed her recent runs (to get fit),” Salter said.
“Normally you’d like to give them three or four trials after such a long break (from racing) but circumstances didn’t permit.”
“I might even give her another start in Hobart next Sunday night to get her ready for the final (Granny Smith) in a fortnight,” he said.
Cloudy Delight was a star juvenile winning six races as a two-year-old including multiple features but last season she only raced three times before injuring a tendon.
This latest win was at only her third start this time in but if she does improve between now and the Granny Smith final she will be very hard to beat.
