COLLYN Rocket looks set to breeze through his grades on the strength of an impressive win in a juvenile event over 461 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Thursday night.
The Ted Medhurst-trained pup was having his second start in the state, coming off a game third to kennel mate Regent Reign a week earlier.
Collyn Rocket is one of a bunch of pups owned and bred by NSW veterinarian and prominent breeder Tom Astbury.
Collyn Rocket ($4.50) began fairly from box six but he mustered good speed to vie for the lead with the odds-on favourite Destine To Dream ($1.60).
When Collyn Rocket applied the pressure to the favourite he gained the upper hand and went on to score by 4-1/2 lengths from the fast-finishing Max Pines with Destine to Dream hanging on for third just in advance of Regent Bonny.
Collyn Rocket (Collision-Lyn’s Daisy) began his racing career in NSW with two wins on the Richmond circuit before making his way to Tasmania.
With natural improvement the dog should win more races.
He is engaged in a juvenile in Launceston on Monday night and will be hard to beat if he begins well from box six.
