Up and coming chaser County Mist will be aiming to emulate the feats of her mother when she lines up to contest third semi-final of the Maiden Thousand series over 461 metres at Ladbrokes Park Hobart on Thursday night.
Trained by Michael Pearce at Dysart, County Mist is a daughter of Cosmic Rumble out of Country Helen which made the Maiden Thousand Final of 2017 starting as favourite before finishing sixth to Dan Road in the event.
The blue bitch was impressive winning her heat last Thursday from box eight, overturning the field and coming away to score by 5-1/2 lengths in beating Perfect Stacey and Atala, setting a time standard of 26.08s for the series.
Last week’s smart performance was County Mist’s fifth start, having been placed on one occasion previously.
Due to a high level of scratchings in the third semi, County Mist will start favourite taking on a field of five runners.
The Pearce kennel will have two more runners engaged in the semis courtesy of Dysart Dancer and Dolls Talkin’.
Colebrook trainer Steve O’Brien certainly won’t go without a chance of snagging a finalist in next week’s maiden final, having bred and prepared three siblings from the My Bro Fabio x Divinations mating which ran well last week.
Swan Vista was the fastest of the three clocking a strong 26.18 heat win last week over Whiskey Woman from box 5.
The 27kg black speedster will this time exit from box two in the second semi-final and on current form coming out of the heats last week, the Debbie Cannan-trained Red Titan (box one) looks to be the main danger.
Rosa Vista and Tilly Vista will make up the three-pronged attack by O’Brien and should improve from their heat run.
The first two placegetters from the four semis will progress through to the Maiden Thousand Final next Thursday which is a feature meeting as part of the Ladbrokes Tasmanian Summer of Racing.
Thursday night’s Hobart greyhound program commences at 19.17 with races 1-5 scheduled for Sky Racing 2 and the remainder on Sky Racing 1. All races live streamed on TasracingTV.
