HEAVILY-BACKED favourite Cyrilfromthepocket overcame a tough run to land some good bets in the Maxfield Drilling 3YO.
Driver Rohan Hillier pushed forward early from a wide draw and the colt had to work to find the death seat. However, he was still able to hold on from Avens and Metroliza to open his account at his fourth start.
Scottsdale trainer and part-owner Ken Hall said that Cyrilfromthepocket had benefited from a recent short break.
“He goes well fresh and he’s had a month off since he last raced,” Hall said.
“His first three starts were pretty good against stiff opposition.”
Like all the horses that he races, Hall bred Cyrilfromthepocket himself.
The colt is named after his sire, Lombo Pocket Watch, and the trainer’s late father Cyril.
