CAMBRIDGE trainer Rhonda Hall heaved a sigh of relief when her promising three-year-old Dalkeith Dancer broke his maiden status in the Ophir Doll Room Maiden Plate over 1100 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today.
Dalkeith Dancer hit the front half-way up the home straight and then staved off the fast-finishing Lover Boy at the business end of the race.
Dalkeith Dancer was having his fourth start this preparation and had put the writing on the wall with tywo handy lacings and a si0sxth in a stakes race for three-year-0olds.
He was ridden by premier jockey Brendon McCoull and he had a glowing report for the trainer.
“He did just about everything wrong today and he still won so he obviously has ability,” McCoull said.
“I reckon he is definitely looking for more ground because he was off the bit almost the entire journey today,” he said.
Dalkeith Dancer defeated Lover Boy by a short half-head with the Gary White-trained Tough Diamond a distant third.
