STAR Tasmanian greyhound Damek returned from an injury-enforced lay-off with an effortless win at Devonport today to keep his unbeaten record at that venue intact.

Damek had not started since suffering a muscular injury while trialing at Albion Park prior to the running of the National Sprint Championship in Queensland in which he was to represent Tasmania and considered a top chance to win the title.

The dog has been plagued by bad luck every time he has ventured interstate with two Victorian sojourns also cut short by injury.

However he showed no signs of the injury today as he swept to a five-length win over Loringo with Hellyeah Jacko, the dog that replaced Damek in the National final, a closing third.

Damek is unbeaten from 12 starts on the Devonport track and his best time over the 452 metres of 25.23 seconds is the closest any dog has gone to breaking Lilli Pilli Lad’s record of 25.13s that was set in July 2000.

Damek clocked a handy 25.64s today which was the best at the meeting but a bit south of his personal best.
