A SPATE of niggling injuries coupled with bad barrier draws paled into insignificance when talented sprinter Darchill notched his second career win at Spreyton last Sunday.
Darchill (David Pires) gave his rivals a galloping lesson as he strolled to an effortless win in the J Boag & Son Class 1 Handicap over 1150 metres on the Tapeta synthetic surface.
The powerfully built gelded son of Churchill Downs carried top weight of 59 kilograms and that was considered too big an impost according to some astute punters but the David Miller-trained gelding made light of the task.
Pires had him settled in the lead with Sister Quest but when the rider called on his charge for the big effort in the home straight he burst clear and went on to score by 1-1/2 lengths from Deceitful Cove with Kentucky Tea a half-length astern.
Miller was delighted with the win and predicted more wins in the near future for Darchill.
