TALENTED Tasmanian greyhound Dark Vito was devoid of luck in last night’s National Derby final over 520 metres at Wentworth Park.
The reigning Devonport Cup winner began well from box two and held the lead nearing the first turn but when the eventual winner Fernando Bale crossed down sharply the Ted Medhurst-trained dog was checked severely and lost his winning chance.
Fernando Bale won from Bad Boy Sniper and Winsome Prince with Dark Vito finishing sixth.
Dark Vito made his way into the final by finishing third in his semi-final a week earlier.
