WELL b red harness racing filly Delightful Lily staked her claim on the Evicus Stakes when she blitzed a star-studded line-up in an Evicus Prelude at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Sunday night.
Delightful Lilly (Dream Away-Odins Valkyrie) came from well back in the field to score a runaway win and confirm her status as one of the state’s most dominant two-year-old fillies.
The Nathan Ford-trained filly proved her worth in the $30,000 Big Park Stud Sweepstakes series final scoring narrowly from Carly Seelster and Really Fay Fay, a race in which she led and hung on to win by the narrowest of margins.
But on Sunday night she was taken back from her wide second-row draw to settle worse than midfield, as was the case with Carly Seelster that drew outside of Delightful Filly in gate 11.
But when Ford eased his filly out three-and then four-wide to make her charge she produced a scintillating turn of foot that put the end result beyond doubt within the blink of an eye in the home straight.
Ford said Delightful Lilly was not expected to be a two-year-old but when she kept on improving with each start he decided to step her up for a crack at the feature races and she has answered the challenge.
