SCOTTSDALE harness trainer Ken Hall has big plans for his well bred two-year-old Dirty Diesel which is why he will dispatch him to the paddock this week after he scored an impressive win on debut at the TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight (Sunday).
Dirty Diesel (Rohan Hadley) raced outside of the leader for most of the 2200m journey but the gelded son of Die Laughing made light work of the task to go on and score comfortably from race leader Buck Major (Brent Parish) with Rustle Murray a distant third, just in advance of the well-backed Chalondra.
Despite having his first start, Dirty Diesel was heavily backed to start the $2.50 favourite, most likely on the strength of a win and two placings at the trials.
“We have been careful not to push this horse too hard and it has paid off,” Hall said.
“We took him to the trials and he was ready to race but he was kicked in the leg by his half-sister Hilda Su (x Elsu) and the wound got infected so we had to stat again,” he said.
Dirty Diesel was bred by the trainer and Rodney Gould.
