The TOTE Distance Championship over 720 metres is the feature race on a huge program of  greyhound racing at the TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight.

After two strong heats last week the winner could be hidden in what is one of the best gathering of the state’s stayers in a long time.

There some outstanding performances in last week’s heats but the winner of tonight’s race could still be hidden.

Happy Tiger trained at Brighton by Brendan Pursell and Lashing Jill from the Mangalore kennel of Allan Anderson were the heat winners in almost identical time but they are not guaranteed of winning as every other finalist has a case for emerging triumphant.

Placegetters in the heats Cheetah Zorro (Brendan Pursell), Terror Time (Rodney Walker), China Lady (Arthur Hurst) and Scrawny (Gary Johnson) have the credentials to win, while Greysynd Merry (Darren Critchley) is ideally drawn and Miss Astro (John Wilton) is a recent winner over 600 metres on the Launceston track.

The program also boasts two heats of the Tasmanian Derby and two heats of the Tasmanian Oaks in which Tasmania’s best youngsters will strut their stuff.

The Derby heat winners could be Willy Wag Tail (Peter Dalton ) and Buckle Up Wes (Ted Medhurst) with Bell Oh Moss (Rodney Walker) and She’s All Class (David Crosswell) the standouts in heats of the Oaks.

The best bet on the card appears in race one in he form of the Debbie Cannan-trained Rudisha that is ideally drawn and should be too good.

The best value is Megalith (Gary Johnson) in race ten.  His only win here is from box one which he has in his favour tonight.
