ASTUTE greyhound trainer Mick Stringer is confident promising pup Docker can notch multiple wins following the dog’s first triumph since arriving at his kennels five weeks ago.
Docker delivered a handy effort at his first start for Stringer in a juvenile at UBET Park last week so with that run under his belt and with an ideal box draw (8) last night connections decided to have a decent punt and the plunge proved successful.
As much as $6 was bet about the son of Wandy Neg but he was backed in to start the $3.50 favourite on the Tote and $3.20 at fixed odds with UBET.
Docker began well from box eight but was unable to cross to the rail until turning for home.
But once on the lure in the home straight he forged clear and went on to score by over six lengths from Nellie Vee with Regent Assassin almost a length away third.
“I used to train this dog’s sire Wandy Neg and had a bit of success with him so when that dog’s owner (Bill Butler) rang me and asked if I’d have a go at training one of his sons it sparked my interest,” Stringer said.
“He had been pinged for turning his head in NSW so he came with a bit of baggage but he has settled in really well and has been on his best behaviour since he’s been with me,” he said.
Docker could not have been more impressive and Stringer is hoping he can repeat the dose in Devonport on Tuesday.
“We had a good bet on him tonight and got the money.”
“He’s drawn box two at Devonport on Tuesday and after having a look at what he’s up against, it is a very winnable race,” he said.
