STAR sprinter Topline Doovee remains on target for a tilt at next month’s the Melbourne Cup series despite suffering an injury in a race in Hobart last Thursday night.
Topline Doovee was sent out a long odds-on favourite in an invitation race at Tattersall’s Park last week which was unexpected given her brilliant first-up win at Devonport a week earlier.
She flew the lids from box five to lead at her first run back and stopped the clock at 25.45 for a personal best on the track and one of the slickest times recorded on the track this year.
She missed the start in Hobart last Thursday night and got into trouble as she tried to improve nearing the top turn.
“She didn’t do any real damage but it was enough of a buffeting to cost her any chance of winning,” said trainer Mick Stringer.
“I checked her thoroughly the next morning as well as getting a second opinion but there was no damage, just a bit of bruising and nothing to cause her any grief.”
“The plan remains to take her to Melbourne this week for the heats of the Sapphire Crown Classic and then head to the Melbourne Cup series,” he said.
Topline Doovee was rated in the top 10 sprinters in Australia and was made first reserve in the upcoming $145,000 Top Gun at The Meadows this Saturday night in which she is still a chance of sneaking into the race if there is a scratching.
