Lightly raced four-year-old mare Our Shinkansen produced an outstanding effort to score a convincing win in Launceston on Wednesday night.

The Adam Trinder-trained mare had trialled well prior to being exposed this time in and she took that form into the maiden race over 1200 metres with Ismail Toker aboard.

The mare began well and settled midfield, but when Toker asked for an effort she quickly rounded up the leaders and went on to win by two lengths from Run Dance Fly ($6.50) and Wardell ($5.50).

Trinder was delighted with the win and explained how she needed time to come to terms with racing.

“The ownership group has been very patient with her because we tried her earlier this year for a debut fourth but then the shutdown came (2 April) and once we realised that would carry on for too long, we put her away,” Trinder said.

“She trialled well, and we were able to bring her to the races and capitalise on that tonight.”

Our Shinkansen (Bullet Train-Hitchhike) was a late maturer and Trinder was careful not to push her early in her career.

“She has always been a filly that has been soft in the bone.

“She’s been shin sore three times and had to be put away and we didn’t want to overexpose her through a synthetic (Devonport) season, so we made a plan to trial her up on the synthetic.

“But I was keen to get on the grass when it reopened, and it’s all worked out perfectly to get a great result.”

There are no specific plans for Our Shinkansen other than to graduate her through the grades, but on Wednesday night’s effort she won’t find it difficult picking up at least a couple more wins this time in.

Easy Road

While Our Shinkansen was impressive, so too was Trinder’s highly rated four-year-old Easy Road that resumed with a sensational win in a benchmark 66 handicap over 1200m.

Easy Road was heavily backed in to start the $4.20 favourite and despite sitting three-wide with no cover to the home turn, the gelded son of Super Easy stretched his lead up the home straight to score by almost four lengths from White Cliffs ($4.80) with Artuso ($4.80) squeezing through a narrow gap close to home to grab third.

It was the gelding’s first start since February and Toker was very impressed with the effort.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect from this horse first-up, but he was explosive,” Toker said.

“A lot of upside to this horse and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do in the future,” Toker said,

Easy Road produced excellent sectionals, running the last 800m in 46.51 (fastest sectional of the night over 1200m) for an overall time of 1:11.33.

Trinder said Easy Road would more than likely have another start over 1200m because he felt the gelding was a bit under done for his first-up assignment and then be stretched out to longer trips up to 1600m.

It was Toker’s third win for the night, but he also was placed aboard Assaranca ($2.20 fav) in a class one handicap and Tiltherewarsyou ($4.20) in a 0-60 handicap (race 8) over 1200m.
