Lightly raced five-year-old mare Dressed In Black produced a brilliant front-running display to win the Eric Reece Memorial final (2090m).

The mare was used up early by driver Ricky Duggan to assume control but she was tested almost every step of the way by the favourite Innasbrook that faced the breeze for the last 1400m.

Dressed In Black was having only her fourth start but showed the courage of a far more seasoned performer.

“We had a lot of trouble getting this mare to the races but she finally came good,” said owner Debbie Carlton.

“It’s been quite a journey for both horse and owners but thanks to plenty of perseverance and dedication by trainer Tony Petersen we finally got there,” she said.

Dressed In Black is by Die Laughing from the well-performed broodmare Chamfer Lady that raced with much success in Tasmania during the 1990s winning 17 of her 58 starts.

While she has suffered with numerous issues the mare looks set for a bright racing career.
