DEVONPORT-based harness racing trainer Mick Maxfield will push on with plans to take his smart three-year-old Driller Mac to Victoria next month to contest a semi-final of the Breeders Crown series.

Driller Mac earned his chance to mix it with the best three-year-old colts and geldings in Australasia by winning a heat of the series at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night.

After being forced to do a bit of work early to finds the lead, Driller Mac settled well for driver Paul Ashwood and went on to score comfortably from arch-rival Hugo Play in a small field of four.

Maxfield set his sights on the Breeders Crown series after his stable star won the Big Park Stud Prince Of Pace in Hobart that followed his first in the Tasmanian Derby.

“I have always liked this horse because he has such a wonderful nature and being patient with him has paid dividends,” Maxfield said.

He followed his win in the Prince Of Pace with a brilliant triumph in the St Leger in Launceston and went into last Sunday night’s Breeders Crown heat on the back of a top win in a C3-C4 over 2200 metres in Launceston.
