IT is an early start for the mega 10-event card at UBET Park Hobart on Sunday with the opening race at 10.55am sure to give punters plenty to think about.
The 2YO and Upwards Maiden Plate over 1200m should boast a full field of 14 with as many as six genuine winning chances including Into The Wind that has placed second at her past four starts and So Much Fun that resumed from a spell with an eye-catching third in Launceston on April 22.
There are four feature races on the program including the 2YO Autumn Classic over 1100 metres (Race 4) and the 3YO Autumn Handicap over 1200m (Race 8).
Gee Gees Top Notch, now in the care of Stuart Gandy, could not have been more impressive in winning the feature 2YO race in Hobart two weeks ago wearing blinkers for the first time and she would only need to take that form into the race to win again.
Star three-year-old Geegees Doublejay will have to carry 62kg in the $30,000 3YO Autumn Handicap (Race 8) but he has proven his class this time in winning in open company but as they say – weight will stop a train.
Silver Bolt ran him to two lengths last time at set weights but meets him eight kilograms better on Sunday and that could be enough to turn the tables.
The $30,000 Open Handicap over 2100 metres (Race 6) has only six runners and includes the in-form Rose of Innocence that is trying for six wins in succession but should she run out the 2100m that she tackles for the first time she is almost unbeatable.
The Mawingo at Grenville Fillies and Mares Quality Handicap over 1200m (Race 9) looks like being a procession for star filly Geegees Goldengirl that produced a tremendous first-up effort after winning the Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) to win the first leg of this series over 1100m two weeks ago.
Geegees Goldengirl carried 59kg to victory last start but drops to 55.5kg and meets almost the same line-up.
The top point scorer from the two-race series will win a free service to Mawingo that stands at Grenville Stud and Geegees Goldengirl would secure that with another win.
