Trainer Eileen Thomas has a strong team of six runners engaged at the Devonport meeting on Tuesday where 10 races will be conducted over the 452m distance. The card is headlined by a quality Invitation race where Thomas will have two chaser’s line up against some accomplished Free-For-All performers.
Both dogs are part of the successful Magic Sprite – Lake Hylia litter owned by Nicholas White and have had no luck with the box draw.
Wind Waker will exit box seven and is first-up since November last year which follows a lengthy break from the track. At his best he is capable of producing some excellent first sections as shown by his best time on the track of 5.79, the quickest of the field.
Minish Woods will start from box six in race 8 and is having his first run for 2021 after finishing second over the 278m in Launceston in December. The black dog has arguably been the best chaser for Thomas over the past couple of years winning 10 races with a further 21 placings earning over $25,000.
Remarkably, all 10 pups from the Magic Sprite – Lake Hylia litter have won multiple races with their total wins combined currently standing at 64 and over $150,000 in prizemoney. It’s a fantastic achievement for the dam and breeder who has another litter by Lake Hylia registered in April 2020 by Cosmic Rumble, consisting of eight pups.
Thomas looks to have great chances early in the program with former Victorian sprinters Flexing in race 2 and Double Breeze race 3. Both are former Victorian sprinters, and both won in Hobart on Thursday night at their first race starts for Eileen.
Flexing, a fawn daughter of Zambora Brockie and Zipping Spice, was the pick of the two on times running a best-of-the-night 19.53 after a fast first section of 5.15.
Other runners on the day for the Invermay-based trainer are Get on Phil, who has drawn well in race 7 and Mystic Tale race 10 who looks well placed despite the draw after some solid efforts at her past two starts.
The 10-race card in Devonport commences at 12:30 on Tuesday and will be on Sky Racing 1 and TasracingTV.
