ELITE ENFIELD is a greyhound that has been quietly going about his business but today he gets his chance to jump into the limelight when he tackles the Country Derby final over 452 metres at Devonport.

The Graeme Barber-trained dog has won 12 and been placed 11 times from his 33 starts and today he has drawn ideally in box two for his Country Derby assignment.

There are few sprinters more consistent than Elite Enfield and if he gains a clear run to the top turn the others will definitely know they are in a race.

The speedy Lisheen has drawn the inside box so that should be an advantage to Barber’s kennel star but it is the talent in the outside boxes that may represent Elite Enfield’s biggest dangers.

Star Chamber from the powerful Ted Medhurst kennel has been in great form and while he usually gets back early box five should not be a bother as he has a powerful finish and has a good record on the Devonport U-bend track.

Rory Mac returned to his best with an all-the-way win in his heat but has drawn a bit wide in seven and Half Century is well drawn in box eight and looms as the best roughie in the race.

The Country Oaks also is a feature on the card today and the Rod Ransley-trained Hattie Bee is likely to start favourite as she has been an impressive winner at her past three starts.
