TASMANIA’S reining premier trainer David Brunton was sent on a mission by a group of owners last month to find a horse that might be capable of winning a few races and it appears his mission was successful.
At the Hobart trials at Tattersall’s Park today a lightly raced three-year-old filly named Encosta De Legend scored an effortless win in
The flashy chestnut filly was put through the ring at a William Inglis Dispersal Sale in Melbourne last month and was knocked down to Brunton for $22,000.
Encosta De Legend arrived in Tasmania with seven starts to her credit for one minor placing, a second at Moe two starts back on February 12 in which she finished a long neck behind Villa Girl on a slow track.
In today’s trial she began well and settled second and when rider Kasi Boxall gave her a little more rein she burst clear and went on to win comfortably over Argentogris with the unraced Simon Said Lets Go a close-up third.
The filly stopped the clock at 59.09 seconds not fully extended, which was a decent effort over the 900-metre trip.
Encosta De Legend, by Encosta de Lago from the Danehill mare The Legend, is expected to have her first start in Tasmania in a maiden at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on April 15.
One of the filly’s part-owners is AFL Tasmania chairman Dominic Baker who has raced horses with mixed fortune interstate for many years.
