ETERNAL SPEED has always given his trainer the impression he could develop into a top class sprinter-miler and while he has yet to live up to those expectations he has been steadily paying his way.

In Launceston last night Eternal Speed delivered a stellar performance to easily win a strong class two event over 1400m to suggest he may be on his way to realising his full potential.

The Nigel Schuuring-trained four-year-old showed a lot of promise as a young horse but he couldn’t quite deliver the goods.

He won at his first start as a three-year-old after which he was sent for a spell but after an encouraging first-up effort at his third preparation his form waned and the trainer was forced to again dispatch him to the paddock.

But Schuuring changed his training regime and tinkered with race gear and the results have seen the gelded son of Tough Speed win impressively at Spreyton on the synthetic at the start of this season and his two other efforts leading up to this latest assignment were encouraging.

“We have always believed this horse would win his share of races but for one reason or another he hasn’t quite lived up to our expectations,” Schuuring said.

“This time in we have changed a few things around and he seems to have responded so we will keep persevering and hopefully there are more wins on the horizon,” he said.
