THE Barry Campbell-trained mare Evil Intent broke through for an overdue win when she powered home to take out the DRC Bar & Bistro Maiden/Class 1 Plate over 1650 metres on her home track at Devonport today.

Evil Intent showed good promise as a three-year-old contesting many of the feature middle distance and staying events but while she was competitive she was restricted to minor placings.

Today she had the services of apprentice Hayley McCarthy who had been aboard the Barry Campbell-trained mare at all of her three previous starts this time in.

“Hayley had done nothing wrong on her at her three previous rides so I kept her on and she deserves to get the win,” Campbell said.

Evil Intent has started 24 times for two wins and nine minor placings for close to $37,000 in stakes.

“We’ll just look for suitable races for the mare and I’m pretty confident she will be competitive in whatever she tackles next,” the trainer said.
