Victoria has a major chance in this year’s National Sprint Final at Hobart, after the fabulous runaway victory of Cranbourne trainer David Hirst’s mighty chaser Fabregas. Obviously named after the great Spanish soccer player, this October 2010 son of Bombastic Shiraz — Wicked Witch, gave a star studded field the short back and sides at Sandown on August 9, leading every step of the way from box five.
He ran a blistering 29.49 on wet track in trying conditions, easily beating Sapporo and Mepunga Geordie.
Fabregas now has the imposing record of 11 wins from 12 starts, and has won all of his eight stars at Sandown.
His stake earnings are now nigh on $50,000.
With such wonderful box manners, and great early speed, he looks perfectly suited to the spacious Hobart U-Turn track over the 461 metres, and is sure to start one of the favourites.
