In Brief
- Wide gate no issue for well-bred filly.
- Early speed puts filly in box seat.
- McCulloch eyes Tasbred Bonus race in Hobart for Entrapped.
Lightly raced three-year-old filly Entrapped celebrated her second win in style when she led throughout to take out the Rex “Snow” and Nancy Aylett Memorial Handicap (C1) over 1150 metres in Devonport on Sunday.
Entrapped ($2) had to overcome a wide gate (10) but she had no trouble finding the lead and once on the rail she settled well for rider Brendon McCoull.
At the top of the home straight when the swoopers were making their charge, the daughter of Fighting Sun-In Harmony slipped into overdrive and careered away from her rivals to score by over three lengths from Gold Current and Sharma Rama.
The Graeme McCulloch-trained filly was having her second start this preparation and looks set to make winning a habit.
“I’ve always liked this filly and this time in she is a more mature racehorse, but she has had a couple of little issues that have prevented her from racing sooner this season,” McCulloch said.
“I had her set for a Tasbreeders bonus race, but she got an infection in her fetlock, so she had to have a couple of weeks off.”
McCoull said the filly has a high cruising speed and she found a lot when he asked for an effort in the home straight.
Entrapped tackled the $150,000 Gold Sovereign and the 2YO Magic Millions Classic without success last preparation, but she resumed in July with a game second in a 2YO handicap in Hobart when she ran into the highly promising First Accused.
“She showed me enough today (Sunday) to suggest she is in for a good campaign and there is a race in Hobart next month that looks a nice option.”
