CONSISTENT mare Finalargee made amends for minor placings at recent starts with a courageous win in the Autobarn benchmark 62 Handicap over 1400 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight.
Finalargee was sent out the $4 favourite with Brendon McCoull aboard and she was always travelling like the winner from the half-way mark.
The Leon and Dean Wells-trained mare arrived in Tasmania about nine months ago and has been a good money-spinner for her Melbourne-based owners with this latest win her third but she also has amassed seven minor placings.
“I have always been impressed with this mare since she arrived in our stable because she tries so hard every time she races,” Leon Wells said.
“This looked a nice race for her stepping down to a benchmark 62 and it was a very god ride from Brendon (McCoull),” he said.
McCoull was full of praise for the mare.
“She has had a habit of over racing and she got her head up a bit tonight but she finished it off really well even though she ran about a bit in the straight,” McCoull said.
Finalargee finished clear of her stablemate Aslanyon that ran a race at big odds with Geegees Snowhill making up good ground to finish third.
