In Brief

  • Three good winning chances for trainer.
  • Trending Now needs to replicate Launceston and Hobart form.
  • Zipping Jersey and Born Jamie controlling the market.

Trainer Darryl Fitzsimmons ventures to Devonport today with three legitimate chances on the 10-race card.

Enjoying good success recently, Fitzsimmons’ afternoon kicks off in race two where last start Launceston winner Notorious Tiger goes around from box eight over 452 metres.

Victorious at three of his past four assignments, the son of Dyna Double One goes around second favourite for today’s grade 6 event, the raging hot favourite Handsome Prince from box four, the son of Sh Avatar a last start 26.29 Hobart winner.

Interestingly though, Notorious Tiger did score in Hobart four starts back in a slicker 26.20, suggesting today’s stoush could be more competitive than what early markets suggest.

The second of Fitzsimmons’ key chances today looms in race three with former NSW sprinter Trending Now set to make her Devonport debut off some terrific form recently in Launceston and Hobart.

A first-up winner in Launceston in a blistering 15.94 over the 278 metres, the daughter of Swift Fancy lost no admirers last week in Hobart over the 340 metres, running a tidy second behind the very smart Frampton after being uncharacteristically slowly away.

Quoted at around $2.40 for today’s 452 metre grade 5 assignment, Trending Now is expected to lead the field a merry dance from box six, with how she sees out the final stages of the event likely to dictate the outcome.

In a competitive race, one greyhound knocking on the door for another win is the Brian Crawford-trained Blackwood Vegas, the son of My Bro Fabio in the money at his past four Devonport appearances.

With luck early from the five trap today, look for him to be somewhere in the finish at around the $5.00 quote.

The last of Fitzsimmons’ chances is in race four this afternoon where Zipping Jersey has been installed a $2.60 second favourite behind favourite Born Jamie (box 1).

Zipping Jersey – a 12-time winner – has been in the money at four of her five Devonport starts.

Fitzsimmons is also represented in the race by rank outsider Anndar Plonk in the 452-metre event.
