THE training partnership of David and Scott Brunton enjoyed another great season with the father and son duo snaring their fifth consecutive trainer’s premiership.

Before teaming up with his son, David won two trainer’s premierships (2005-06 and 2006-07) to give the Bruntons seven of the past nine titles.

John Blacker won the premiership in 2007-08 and the following season Charlie Goggin notched his 12^th premiership having won his first in 1991-92 with 60 winners and he won the title eight of the next nine seasons interrupted only by Barry Campbell in 1995-96.

The Bruntons produced some very talented gallopers this season including Havana Stash that ended his season with a resounding win in Launceston last Sunday and he has since been sent to the paddock and will be brought back to tackle the Newmarket handicap.

Team Brunton prepared 68 winners; 10 less than last season but their strike rate of 17.9% was up on last season.

The Bruntons finished 24 wins clear of their nearest rival Adam Trinder who enjoyed his best season since acquiring his trainer’s licence only three years ago.

Barry Campbell finished third with 39 winners but he was clearly the best trainer of two-year-olds winning almost half the juvenile races framed in Tasmania this season with his stable star Admiral winning six of his seven starts for almost $200,000 in stakes.

John Blacker finished fourth in his first season back in the state after spending two years in Victoria training from stables at Seymour about 90 kilometres north of Melbourne.
