It’s Fletch heads to Devonport for the 40th time on race day Tuesday and he looks a great chance of adding to his impressive record at the Showgrounds in the Tasracing Early Speed Sectionals Open Masters race.
The brindle son of Fernando Bale – Push It has been incredibly consistent in his career for Mount Direction trainer Wayne Williams as he approaches his 100th race start. He has a place percentage of 71% during that time to go with a great winning strike rate of 25%. His current prize-money total is just short of $60,000.
Last start on the track he was heavily supported opening at an extremely short price of $1.05 before easing slightly to $1.30 at the jump. He normally begins well and likes to race away from the fence which was the case this time around and he was checked then bumped several times in the run to the turn. To his credit, he fought hard driving through and found some racing room before finishing his race well, to go down by only a length at the finish.
His record from the inside two boxes reads just two wins from 18 starts, well below his overall rating. The middle and outside draws have been much more productive, however. He has missed a place just once from 15 races out of the pink box which includes four wins. He won his last start from the draw back in March on the Devonport track defeating a quality Invitation field.
Trainer Wayne Williams is also represented in the same race by littermate Fernie.
