FOREST SKY’S win in a class two handicap in Launceston last Thursday night convinced his trainer David Brunton the gelding could be up to tackling one of the feature three-year-old races in the coming weeks.
With in-form heavyweight jockey Michael Guthrie in the saddle, Forest Sky produced a barnstorming finish to grab victory over Tawera in the shadows of the post.
Talented apprentice Talia Rodder took Tawera to the front about 800 metres from home and held the gelding together to the home turn where she released the hold on the reins.
Tawera booted clear to lead by three lengths at the top of the straight but under strong hands and heels riding Guthrie’s charge eventually gained the upper hand close to home.
