In Brief

  • Moss 'N' Bolt finds right distance.
  • Owners cash in.
  • Trainer says more wins to come for former Victorian.

Former Victorian galloper Moss ‘N’ Bolt broke through for his first win in the state last Sunday and his owners made sure they capitalized by backing the Ken and Tanya Hanson-trained gelding in to start the $2.70 favourite.

With apprentice Kyle Maskiell in the saddle, Moss ‘N’ Bolt rounded up the leaders nearing the home turn and powered home to score by almost a length from Uncovered with GeeGees Rock Opera about a half-length astern.

Co-trainer Tanya Hanson said the gelding had taken a while to settle into a different routine to what he was used to in Victoria.

“A lot of horses take a while to come to terms with different training techniques and that applied to this horse,” Hanson said.

“But more importantly it was stepping him up to the 1880m that made the difference.

“His best form in Victoria was over 2000m so we just had to step him up to the 1880m to get a better idea of where he was at.

“I’m sure he will appreciate it even more when he gets over 2100m on the grass in Launceston and Hobart.”

Moss ‘N’ Bolt hails from the Peter Gelagotis stable at Moe where he had 21 starts for three wins and six minor placings.
