A REJECT from the Darren Weir stable in Victoria looks set to make winning a habit given the way he toyed with his rivals to win a benchmark 62 handicap over 1350 metres at Spreyton yesterday.

Dillon Hall, prepared at Brighton by Gary White, arrived at White’s stables at the end of May and this latest outing was the gelding’s third for his new owners and trainer.

The gelded son of Dylan Thomas went into the race on the back of a game third to Incumsdacash in a class two handicap over 1350 metres but had no luck from a tough draw and it was on the strength of that effort that punters sent him around the $3 favourite.

But from barrier two talented rider Damien Thornton was able to have the gelding settled just off the speed set by Geegees Drummerboy with the well-tried Hugo camped off the speed on the rails.

When Thornton called on Dillon Hall for the big effort in the home straight he raced past the leader and when challenged by Bitter Dan and Ashalar he dug deep and had no trouble in fending off all comers at the business end of the race.

Listen to what trainer Gary White had to say about Dillon Hall’s first Tasmanian win.
