We head to Launceston for a good nine-event card with the highlight being the return to Tasmania of Ignatius who has his first run here since his first 3YO win. He drops a long way in class so should be winning but he does go up against some in-form pacers which include two of the state’s most promising types in The Shallows and Lip Reader who are flying in lower grades. Then you add in prover open class pacer Call Me Hector who has a great record over the short trip.
The smart 2YO filly Bridwood Bella resumes from a let up after a scintillating 1:57 win on debut but needs to overcome the second row.
Talking about the two-year-olds we had the heats of the Sweepstakes for the colts and geldings with the first heat going to the Kent Rattray-trained Stormy Sanz who made it four wins on the trot when he kicked back to beat a game Lancelot.
Paul Hill reminded us all why he’s known as the “king of the kids” when his impressive youngster Rocknovertime made his rivals look second rate racing away to win easily and is clear pre-post favourite for the final next week.
The Prelude for the fillies was taken out by the impressive Melnrowley who zoomed across early and got a good time in front and then ripped home in 27.7 for the last quarter to win easily for astute horseman Craig Hayes.
