Peter Staples speaks with Rowan Hamer in a thoroughbred edition of From the Stables. Hamer has a big team for the meeting in Devonport on Sunday with six runners engaged including stable stars Aspirate and Braccenby.
Race 1 Horse 5 Anteeksi
The 5YO mare lines up for her first career start with only moderate trial form.
“Had a couple of trials, she’s quite an older mare now, she’s five and hasn’t done anything. She hasn’t shown us a lot, we’ve taken the 3kg off to try and give her a bit of weight relief because she’s not very big”.

Race 2 Horse 5 Vocab
The consistent mare lines up for her fourth career start and first in Devonport.
“She’s been solid without impressing too much. She impressed in a trial here, so she handles the synthetic quite well. She’s probably looking for a bit further but given the right run she won’t be far away”

Watch the replay of Vocab finishing just out of the placings last start in Launceston.
Race 3 Horse 1 Aspirate
Returns after a three run Victorian campaign where he finished in the prize-money at every start and recorded one victory.
“The 61 (kg) won’t worry him, he’s a big horse so weight’s no problem, I think he was placed with 62 last start. He has a few issues in the barriers but if he gets out of them no problem I think he will be very hard to beat”

Watch Aspirate’s recent trial, finishing behind Goodbye Lonesome who ran third on Wednesday night.
Race 5 Horse 5 Bedrock Dreams
The 7YO mare has won almost $117,000 in career prize-money, but the trainer advises this will be her last ever chance to pick up a cheque.
“She tries her heart out every time she goes around. We were actually retiring her after her last start, but she ran so well we got talked into running her again, but she will be finished after Sunday”.

Watch Bedrock Dreams last start second placing on Melbourne Cup day.
Race 7 Horse 4 Knightwood Lad
The 4YO hasn’t shown a lot in three career starts but should be suited up to 1880m.
“He’s not very fast but he can run consistent sectionals on the track for a fair way, so we worked him over 1800m on Wednesday when he missed the run and he ran the same last 600m as he can running up 600m”

Race 8 Horse 1 Braccenby
The 7YO is in a purple patch of form, going for an amazing fifth straight win.
“He’s flying the old boy. We sort of found the key to him. He’s happy and racing well on the synthetic and meets another small field which suits him because he can settle anywhere”.
Race 8 – FORMPLUS Guide
Watch Braccenby win with ease over 1350m in Devonport last start.
