The Hobart track can often benefit the bigger high-speed dogs with its long run to the bend and tough, uphill straight. One dog who took a liking to the spacious one-bend track was Leeroy Rogue.
Leeroy Rogue
His overall record of 43 wins from 70 starts is outstanding however his Hobart stats of 24 starts for 19 wins and 4 placings shows just how much he appreciated the circuit. He finished his career with total prizemoney of just under 150,000.
At his first Tasmanian start he showed what was to become a typical performance on the track. He was last out of the boxes before displaying tremendous mid-race speed to work to the lead on the bend. He consistently broke six seconds between the first and second sections which only the top-class runners achieve.

After another 22 wins on the track, Leeroy Rogue lined up in what was to be his last race start, the Group 1 Hobart Thousand Final. In a quality field he started at odds of $21, but the race was all but over when the normally tardy beginner ran a career best first section of 5.05 on his way to a brilliant, all-the-way victory.
