Tasmania doesn’t host many Friday thoroughbred meetings but in this edition of From the Vault, Matt Reid has found a standout from last year’s first ever Good Friday program and a synthetic speed demon that debuted on a Friday with a track record performance.

Gee Gee Fiorente

The first ever Good Friday thoroughbred meeting didn’t produce a lot of winners that would be classified as progressive but it did provide a horse that competed in both the Hobart and Launceston Cups this year in Gee Gee Fiorente. His win in benchmark 64 company as a three-year-old was his fourth in succession all of which came over a mile.

Count Out

The career of Count Out was brief but he certainly made an impression with his first two runs in Devonport producing track records over 900m and 1000m. He wasn’t able to re-produce his synthetic form on the grass however and his racing career ultimately ended after just the four starts. One of his scalps on debut was Blaze Forth who went on to win this year’s Listed Conquering Stakes.
