TALENTED sprinter Frytson made his way into the Greyhound Owners Trainer Breeders Association Tasmania final with a career-best performance in a heat at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Thursday night.
Frytson has been slowly making an impact in top grade and the speedy son of Surf Lorian was at his best to win his heat.
He began brilliantly from box seven but had to share the lead with Franklin Bluboy to the top turn.
But Frytson’s trait of running wide entering the home straight looked set to cost him another win when Franklin Bluboy dashed clear.
But Frytson dug deep in the home stretch and despite being near the outside fence he regained the lead close to home and went on to score by a half-length from Shanlyn Poh with Franklin Bluboy almost a length away third and just ahead of Gracie.
Frytson is owned by Peter and June Phillips and is arguably the pick of the litter from Portent, a daughter of World’s Finest’s litter by Bombastic Shiraz that also produced champion sprinter Damek.
Frytson stopped the clock at 26.48s on a slow track.
The remaining Division One heat was taken out by the underrated MartelloTowers that powered home to defeat Bees Knees and the luckless CanadianBay.
Shanlyn Twiggy led from box four while MartelloTowers began with them wearing the black vest and ended up tracking the leader into the home straight.
Shanlyn Twiggy started to feel the pinch half-way up the home straight and Bees Knees (rails) and MartelloTowers swooped on the lead with MartelloTowers too strong over the concluding stages.
CanadianBay fell out of the boxes and was a clear last but he kept improving and rattled home to grab third and secure a berth in the final.
MartelloTowers ran the 461 metres in a handy 26.38 on what had become a slow track due to heavy rain that fell on the track midway through the program.
