WELL BRED sprinter Fulande is on her way to the Hobart Thousand following an impressive win in an invitation event over 461 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night (Thursday).

Fulande began fairly from box three but she mistered speed quickly to join co-leaders Trust Fund (2) and Hellyeah Kristy and by the time they reached the top turn Fulande had a three length break and was extending that margin nearing the home straight.

The Peter Phillips-trained bitch headed for home four lengths clear and hit the line with five lengths to spare over Shanlyn Poh with the well-backed Nicholas Jack over three lengths astern and only just in advance of Trust Fund.

It was Fulande’s sixth win on the track and her 14th career victory from 36 starts.

The daughter of Surf Lorian-Portent is one of the most consistent sprinters racing at present with her impeccable box manners making her an ideal candidate for the Hobart Thousand series should connections opt to go that way.

This latest win was impressive and while her time of 26.07 wasn’t earth shattering it was clearly the best of the night on what would have been rated a slow racing surface.

She has broken 26 seconds, clocking 25.94 in winning a grade four in May.

Shanlyn Poh ran on well as he usually does and Nicholas Jack did a good job given he copped a check when trying to cross down to the rail nearing the home turn.

One of the most impressive winners on the card from the lower grade races was Crazy Wal that finally broke his drought on the Hobart circuit.

It was Crazy Wal’s sixth start at Tattersall’s Park for four minor prizes but this time the Ted Medhurst-trained dog did it in style.

he missed the start from box six but had the leaders in his sights at the top turn.

Once balanced for the run home he bounded away and went on to win by seven lengths from Bit Rocky with Bruno Boy over a length away third.

Husband and wife trainers Joan and Keith Nichols celebrated a family double when In The Book led all the way to win a grade five (461m) for Joan and Immortal mirrored that effort in the following race to take out a grade four over 461 metres.
