THE connections of well bred filly Encosta De Legend had reason to believe they have invested wisely following the three-year-old’s effortless win in a maiden over 1000 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today (Sunday).
The group of 10 owners that includes AFL Tasmania boss Dominic Baker, paid $24,000 for the daughter of Encosta De Lago at a William Inglis dispersal sale in Melbourne about six weeks ago.
The filly is prepared at Seven Mile Beach by David and Scott Brunton who trialed her in Hobart two weeks ago and she showed that day she had talent winning the trial (900m) in a canter.
With Brendon McCoull aboard the filly settled just behind the leaders but was always travelling like the winner.
When McCoull eased her three-wide to challenge at the top of the home straight she quickly cruised to the leader and when McCoull gave her more rein she burst clear and hit the line over three lengths clear of Cinamona with Cheerful Gee Gee a close-up third.
