THE last five races at UBET Park Hobart today were postponed due to gale force winds that made the track unsafe for racing.
Jockeys and Tasmanian Jockeys Association representative Kevin Ring met with stewards after race three where jockeys raised concerns that gale force winds were causing horses to be blown off stride, particularly in the back straight, which in their opinion made the track an unsafe working environment
Gusts of up to 95kmh were recorded during the third event and after stewards’ attempts to glean meteorological information from the Weather Bureau failed, they had no option but to postpone the balance of the meeting.
A decision on whether the remainder of the meeting can be rescheduled will be made by Tasracing tomorrow morning.
