A GEAR change applied to Largs Lass paved the way for the mare’s first win at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today.

The four-year-old’s trainer Rhonda Hall said Largs Lass had been unlucky at a couple of her most recent starts when placed or finished just off the placegetters but the application of a tongue suppressor had worked wonders.

With Kelvin “The Iceman” Sanderson in the saddle, Largs Lass delivered the goods to score from race favourite Una Dawn and Gee Gees Dash.

Largs Lass (El Maggiore-Arabian Dolphin) was given the gun run on the pace and booted clear turning for home.

But the best part of the performance was her courage when challenged strongly by Una Dawn that loomed to win 200 metres out but she was unable to get past Hall’s mare.

Largs Lass was having her third start this preparation and it was only her seventh career outing.

She had two starts as a two-year-old and last season she presented only twice for two minor placings.
