PROMISING three-year-old filly Gee Gees La Quita delivered on a promise she made on debut when an eye-catching third in a maiden over 1100 metres late last month.
After finishing a luckless third on debut her trainer Stuart Gandy said the filly had a bright future and had the potential to be a contender in feature three-year-old races later this season.
In a 3YO and upwards maiden over 1400 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday Gee Gees La Quita showed why connections have such a high opinion on the daughter of Atlantis Prince.
With apprentice Rasit Yetimova in the saddle, Gee Gees La Quita ($3.60) settled second and was always travelling well while race leader Wonder Valley set a solid pace to have a six-length break on her rivals turning for home.
When Yetimova called on his filly for the supreme effort in the home straight she responded magnificently but the heavily backed Ground Control ($3 fav) also joined in and the pair settled down to a two-horse war over the fin al 200 metres.
Gandy’s horse proved too good where it counted and hit the line 1-1/2 lengths clear of Ground Control with outsider Alimat ($29.50) almost a length away third.
