PROMISING three-year-old Geegees Baritone could be aimed at the Tasmanian Derby following his emphatic win in a class one handicap over 1400 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight.
Geegees Baritone was given the run of the race by in-form jockey Anthony Darmanin who had him laced just behind the speed set by Testa Gee Gee and All Cheer with Before All taking the trail in third spot.
Darmanin eased his charge three-wide to challenge on the home turn and when he called on the gelded son of Wordsmith for the big effort in the home straight he sped clear and went on to defeat Before All comfortably with Testa Gee Gee hanging on for third ahead of The Stockman.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with how this horse has come back to racing and tonight there was no bad luck involved and she delivered,” Leon Wells said.
“We have no doubt he will be better when he gets over more ground and I guess the Tasmanian Derby is an option,” he said.
Geegees Baritone is owned by Paul and Elizabeth Geard.
