TALENTED three-year-old sprinter Geegees Doublejay delivered one of his best performances to emerge triumphant in a Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1100 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Sunday.

Geegees Doublejay was facing tough opposition from a handy field of older and more seasoned sprinters and when he missed the start with inexperienced apprentice Victor Wong aboard his chances of winning decreased enormously.

But Wong showed great calm and gradually eased the gelding into the race from the 700-metre peg and when the field balanced for the run home Geegees Doublejay unleased a powerful turn of foot that took him to a comfortable victory over Espry and Yuppony from the Adam Trinder stable.

Geegees Doublejay has proven his worth against his own age this season and his trainer Stuart Gandy will now aim him at the three-year-old sprint races in the Autumn.
