CLASSY filly Geegees Goldengirl will be aimed at the feature three-year-old races following her impressive first-up win at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart yesterday.
Geegees Goldengirl was having her first start since breaking her maiden status in a 2YO Maiden in June.
The Stuart Gandy-trained filly showed enormous potential last season with placings behind last season’s best two-year-old Admiral which is testament to her ability.
Yesterday jockey David Pires had the filly placed handy to the leader Little Streaker to the home turn but when he aimed her at the outside of the track in the home straight to find the best going she let down brilliantly.
Geegees Goldengirl went on to score comfortably from Aventador with Smartie Artie a close-up third.
“I couldn’t be happier with this first-up effort,” Gandy said.
“She’s been in work about three months and has had a faultless preparation leading up to this race.”
“We will be heading to the 3YO Cup from here and then look at the other features such as the Thousand Guineas for fillies over 1600 metres.”
“I am very confident she will run a strong 1600m this time in, in fact we probably won’t see the best of her until she gets out to that distance and beyond,” he said.
