The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) in Tasmania is providing an opportunity for people interested in adopting a dog to meet and play with a greyhound at the weekend.
GAP Tasmania will hold a meet and greet/ adoption day at the Tattersall’s Park greyhound kennels (Sunday 3 May between 11.30am and 1.30pm).
GAP Tasmania coordinator Susan Gittus said she was keen to provide an opportunity for people to meet a greyhound and take them for a walk and a play.
“We want people to find out for themselves what a greyhound is really like,” she said.
“There will be greyhounds waiting for adoption and foster carers and recent adopters who can talk about their own experiences.”
Mrs Gittus said rugs and collars would also be available to buy to “glam up” your greyhound.
GAP Tasmania, a not-for-profit that operates under the Tasracing umbrella, works to help greyhounds find a permanent pet home after retiring from racing.
“One of our key focuses is to educate the public on what a gentle and affectionate pet greyhounds are,” Mrs Gittus said.
“Events like this provide the perfect forum to do this.”
