PROMISING four-year-old gelding Getitdone has been one of the shining lights of the David and Scot Brunton stable this season and he looks set to shine again at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight.
Getitdone is unbeaten from three outings this season and while he is stepping out against some stiff opposition in a benchmark 78 handicap over 1200 metres (Race 4) and he is coming back in distance (1400m-1200m) he should still have enough of an edge to keep his unbeaten record this season intact.
The gelded son of Telesto-Faint Light (x Poacher’s Moon) has won half of his 12 career starts but has gone about his business quietly but of late has been making a noise with his courageous last-to-first barnstorming finishes.
He has won his past two over 1400 metres in class four company.
Two starts back he came from well back in the field to defeat Ebbing and Dangerous Gee Gee in Hobart and last start he settled closer in fourth spot in field of eight and produced a powerful finish to outgun Two Bob by almost a half-length with the winner’s stablemate Lightly Spiced a closing third.
Co-trainer David Brunton said last season that he thought Getitdone would develop into a very handy galloper and that prediction has been right on the money.
The gelding has drawn well in gate one tonight and provided he jumps well, rider Michael Guthrie should be able to have him settled around midfield.
It will be up to Guthrie to find a way clear at the business end of proceedings and provided the rider is up to the task Getitdone should have four wins from four outings to his credit at the end of the race.
He is taking on the likes of Heartbreak Kid that has top weight of 60kg but he has mixed it with the best sprinters and more tan held his own, while talented mare Tranquil Lass will also keep Getitdone honest.
Tranquil Las is coming off a brilliant first-up win in a benchmark 78 over 1400 metres at this venue two weeks ago with connections already eyeing off aces such as the $150,000 Group 3 Bow Mistress (1200m) and $100,000 Listed Vamos Stakes (1400m), both of which are feature mares’ races during the upcoming AAMI Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.
The Royston Carr-trained Rave Night also has been racing well of late without winning. He has been placed second at two of his past three attempts including runner-up to subsequent Devonport Cup winner Dream Flyer in an open handicap over 1200 metres in Hobart on December 4.
