WELL bred four-year-old Gocarma made it three wins in succession when he powered home to take out the Cube Seaport Benchmark 62 Handicap over 1200 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight (Wednesday).
Gocarma (Brendon McCoull) settled worse that midfield but was always raveling in hi comfort zone and when taken wide to make his more turning for homer the West Quest gelding quickly moved to the leaders and under strong hands and heels riding he eventually forged clear.
Gocarma went on to defeat Si Siempre and Royal Express with Gotta Have Vibe hanging on for fourth.
Trainer Graeme McCulloch said Gocarma had taken a while to come to hand but it wasn’t until he had the gelding shod differently that he started to make an impact on the racetrack.
“The horse was a daisy clipper and he used to hit himself and that was causing him some grief but when he had him shod differently he was a different horse and putting the blinkers on also helped,” McCulloch said.
Gocarma won his maiden over 1400m in Hobart on September 21 defeating promising mare Spun Sugar and he followed up with an equally impressive victory in a class one at the same venue and over the same distance two weeks later.
“I am thrilled with this horse because he always showed ability at home on the training track but he had issues,” McCulloch said.
“Once we sorted out his showing he was a different horse and I am sure he can go on and win more races,” he said.
Gocarma is by McCulloch’s stalwart stallion West Quest from a Perugino mar Peruge that is a three-quarter sister to top class horse Testa Rossa.
