Tasmania’s champion greyhound Damek (R6) looks to have drawn one of the weaker heats in tonight’s Tasmanian Betfair Gold Cup heats at Elwick.

Although drawn awkwardly in four he will start at prohibitive odds and should make his way through to next week’s final.

His main opposition will come from speedster Miki Moto Mike while Pretty in Blue has her box.

Victorian visitor Compacto (R8) hasn’t seen the Hobart track but that should not stop this son of Regal Brett.

Trained at Sale by Judy Risk, he flew the lids at Devonport at his last start stopping the clock in a sizzling 25.31 and although up against some classy opposition he should be too fast again.

Hardest to beat will be top class performers Innisfree Miss and Centennial Bark.

In the other heats Portrait Ignites (R5) meteoric rise through the grades should continue although he will be hard pressed by Place Your Bet returning from injury and St Leger winner Lika Whisper, while Mojito and Decembrist should battle out R7.

Akoya Pearl (R9) will be doing her best work at the finish while juvenile Violoncello (R1) has her chance to break through.

Best Bets: R5 No 3 Portrait Ignites, R6 No 4 Damek, R8 No 6 Compacto.

Best E/W: R1 No 2 Violoncello, R2 No 3 Bluffy Lad, R4 No 7 Classic Typhoon.
