ONE of Tasmania’s most prominent harness racing owner-breeders Mick Maxfield celebrated one of his most significant wins in Launceston tonight (Sunday) when his well bred two-year-old Posh Art scored a courageous win on debut in the $10,000 Tasmanian Yearling Sale Classic over 2200 metres.
The well bred filly by Art Major from I Decline, a mare Maxfield bought in New Zealand a few years ago, began only fairly from gate two and drifted out to near last when the field hit the turn out of the straight the first time.
Guys Delight led from gate three and set a solid pace while Kinda Grey led the outside brigade and when he eventually made his way to the “death” seat outside of the leader, Posh Art’s driver Paul Ashwood slipped off the fence and latched on the back of Kinda Grey to secure the one-one sit.
When Kinda Grey was asked by her driver Ricky Duggan to apply pressure to the leader leaving the back straight the last time the leader found little and she worked to the lead.
But when Ashwood asked his charge to extend she lost ground and appeared gone when they straightened for the run home.
But under strong driving Posh Art found enough over the concluding stages to score by a metre from Something Devine with Kinda Cute rattling home for third and just in advance of her stable mate Kinda Grey.
